Respectfully, the media bothsidesing the issue is part of the problem in that it normalizes MAGA. MAGA is fascism defined. Look it up. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fascism . Then read Project 2025 and listen to Trump's own words. Dems and the media not calling MAGA what it truly is--fascism--is complicit. Call it what it is.
Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I did refer to print and broadcast reporters being part of the problem. Political scientists debate whether MAGA is fascist. At the very least—and this might be a future column for me—my view is that MAGA comes in perpendicular, so to speak, to the normal liberal-conservative axis. Also, I am a regular CNN viewer, but I complained during the 2016 campaign that their coverage essentially gave the election to Trump. Countless times they would broadcast a view of a stool with a microphone on top of it while waiting for him to appear and start.
Thanks. Again respectfully, political scientists who say MAGA isn't fascist are complicit, most likely implicitly. I'm sure academics were also in deep conversation about whether or not Nero should be fiddling while Rome burned.
It seems to me that this use of inflammatory language started with Trump, so Democrats in order to deal with Trump‘s inflammatory language said, “Game on.” Kamala is taking him on in a different way. She says he’s weird. He’s out of touch. Both true in my estimation, and they seem to be having a stronger effect than fascist. Fascist is too frightening and then pundits argue about whether that's accurate or not and the masses doze off. Weirdo indicates a little “offness,” and they laugh. Fascist indicates Trump is powerful and a tough guy. Appealing to those who love power. But weird? No doubt. They agree he’s a little or a lot “off.” And no one wants a president whose weird and so weird we all laugh about him. Strips away his fake power. just like the Wizard of Oz.
Just a follow-up to my original post: note the language the MAGA folks are using to characterize Tim Walz and the Democratic ticket generally.
